  2. Reading about this rally made me emotional…and so proud to be part of the LGBT community who are so compassionate and caring. We could have just as easily overlooked these crimes but LGBT, be it black, white, old young, trans, butch, and everything inbetween; we’re such a united community and stand together as one when things like this happen. I attribute all our many successes and huge strides we made as a community in the past 10 years directly to things like this. 30 years ago, anti gay hate crimes happened every hour and hardly went reported, much less investigated, much less rallied against. Today, we engage the public in these events and respectfully inform them about it, and create awareness. And that right there is why gay rights and our community is advancing. Awareness, education and outreach. Create a face book event invite page for this and ask all LGBT in NYC to send it to their friends and people can start RSVPing.
