Staged Selection Process

In late April, NuVo Condoms announced it would be holding a same-sex wedding contest. Hearing the call for contestants, facebook page Gay Marriage USA (GMUSA) responded and featured the contest information. NuVo was subsequently inundated with submissions from couples all around the nation wanting to try their luck at winning the unique contest (see GMUSA feature).

Due to the intense response, additional rounds were added to the contest. Contestants were first required to post their image/story on the NuVo Condoms facebook page. The Top 10 couples with the most ‘likes’ on their photos proceeded to the next round which was hosted by Gay Marriage USA facebook page. GMUSA featured the Top 10 couples and an additional round of voting commenced.

The Top 5 couples (4 female  couples and 1 male couple) with the most ‘likes’ on their images across rounds one and two went through to the final round of the contest which included an interview with representatives of NuVo Condoms. Amanda and Rachel were chosen as the winning couple following the interview rounds!

The Winning Couple: Amanda and Rachel

A military couple in their 20s, Amanda and Rachel’s original submission in the contest read as follows:

“My incredibly gorgeous fiancé Rachel Murphy and I are going to win this contest. Our lives came together in 2008 while in high school in Florida. She came from Missouri and I came from New Jersey. Both of us encountered many issues before meeting each other. Since then the past seems to be a blur of my mother’s suicide, her loss of a home, my step father’s death, and her mother falling into the deep pits of alcohol. We enlisted in the United States Army together in 2010. Since 2009 we have been on our own and making it through the lowest of low to being able to provide a place for us to live. Neither of our families can actually help us out with a wedding and this opportunity is indescribable in so many ways (since all of our money is going for Med School). This would honestly be a dream come true and we can finally become Amanda and Rachel Ortiz-Murphy.

Here’s the truth. The truth is that homosexuality and gay marriage are wrong. God is the authority. Such has been previously acknowledged, by law, that we are a nation which “Trusts In God”. And, God is love, and just, and righteous. Meaning…a just and pure God cannot and will not let “wrong (homosexuality)” go on forever, especially when a nation condones wrong. People are either for God, or against God. Ultimately, they either choose to believe in God, follow His Word, the Bible, and do right in His eyes; or they choose to not believe. Problem is, the evidence of God is so irrefutable that we are without excuse, when it comes to believing. We must not be deceived in believing homosexuality is right, when God teaches otherwise. Importantly, God doesn’t want any to not accept what is right, but unfortunately many will refuse to accept Him. As a nation, we need to have the courage to stand up for what is really “right”, as previous generations have done, and not be deceived. Know that people make their own choices, but also know that God is not mocked. Please read it for yourself, and follow what is truly right and just…Romans 1:26-27; 1 COR 6:9-11; Matthew 18:7; 1 John 4:16; Nahum 1:2-3; Zechariah 8:16-17; Psalms 33:5; Ecclesiastes 12:13-14; Jonah 3:10; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Romans 2:5-11; Romans 3:23-26; Galatians 6:7.

Here’s the truth: the USA is a secular nation and the religious beliefs of no group shall be written into secular laws. Freedrom of religion also means freedom FROM religion. Case closed.

      • Thank you! For telling it how it is, and doing so with class and brevity. I know I sounded a bit rude, but the ignorance just gets to me after a while…it is good that you were so succinct and educational, I am a bit too emo about it
        all… ❤

    • Why would you even come on this website to bother happy, functioning gay people?Does their happiness threaten you, in some way? How? Are you secretly a bit gay, do you hate that much, or do you in any way actually think that you are doing God’s work? Because, newsflash, you snake-handling freak, we are not a nation under YOUR GOD… no god of mine would ever, ever let an ignorant, homophobic, unloving and judgmental person like you speak for them Christianity is not a philosophy for you to pick and choose from, then throw your castrated version into our faces, telling us what to do.. I am not gay, but you make me want to dive right in, just to Piss you off, idiot…

There is a Law that seperates church and state for a reason!! Get a clue!!!

I do not believe it is your place to be coming down on this couple as if God himself sent you out on a quest. Do not speak as if you know how he will react to this. The lord above will be the one to judge them, as he will all of us. Lets save judgement for someone much more experienced than you. Let God speak for himself for a change. If you believe in God, and you believe he thinks this is such a sin, tell me why he created gay human beings in the first place? God did not create destruction in our world, people like you did.

    • Matthias says:

Oh man. I’m so glad all of those Christians and Catholics who get divorces aren’t mocking God and “his” idea of the sanctity of marriage.
      Oh, wait…
Seriously? I love how you “Christians” feel that it’s okay to pick and choose from God’s word to suit whatever phobias you may have. I once had a discussion with a pastor about this, and all of his rebuttals were “some laws don’t apply to the times anymore, because Jesus Christ died for our sins and now we follow the New Testament..” Oh, so did God come down and say, “Hey guys. You know basically all of the laws I set down for you in The Old Testament? Yeah, ignore ALL of those, basically. Yeah, go ahead and eat shellfish. Wear that polyester proudly. Don’t actually own slaves, that’s bad.
BUT HOMOSEXUALITY!? NONONONONONONONONO, THAT’S STILL BAD.
But everything else, no worries, no worries.”
Also, even if you’re trying to go by the New Testament and say “IT ALSO SAYS THAT HOMOSEXUALITY IS BAD IN CORINTHIANS,” yeah, sure it does, if you’re going by anything more translated than the Revised Standard Version. Sure, a bunch of the later translations find a way to throw in homosexuality there when it only says “sexual perverts,” and in the King James version, it says “effeminate.” Neither of those single out homosexuals as being people who cannot inherit the kingdom of God. I can’t even look at any of the later translated versions without laughing hysterically, because you can tell some very homophobic people were in charge of doing that “translation.”
Please, just do the world a favor and admit to the fact you’re simply homophobic and you’re trying to justify your hate. I don’t think God would be very fond of bigots inheriting his kingdom, just so you know. No one here is trying to justify anything for God or for themselves. They live their lives the way they do, and if loving someone with the same reproductive organs as you is such a terrible sin in your God’s eyes, I really hope he isn’t real. My idea of God is one that isn’t so petty as to concern himself with the usage of his children’s genitalia.

Here is the truth bvh, YOUR personal beliefs have nothing to do with what this country or ANY country is made of. In order to become a real country It takes education, intelligenge, evolution, team work, open minds, technology, new discoveries and creativity amongst other POSITIVE things. Certainly religion is not part of it! In fact, whenever religion gets involved with politics, it creates hate, corruption, discrepancies, segregation, discrimination and separation. So my advice to you: take your old book written by a few men ( who knows who they where) many many centuries ago, which has been transformed, changed, and translated so many times that really is more a fantasy than Cinderella; go and make some research if you don’t believe me, go to a library, or better: get an education. Open your eyes! I believe in your religion Jesus Christ was all about love, acceptance and forgiveness, so check again and stop spreading hate. Oh and take a look at other countries, from the real First world, and see why religion is just a very personal thing that should stay at your house. I hope, wish and pray you don’t have any gay member at your family since you can obviously create such misery.
And finally, go get a life and do not get in this page or any other page to spread your hate, because your words are rubbish. Nobody cares, you are wasting time, ours and yours. Go home, get a job, get an education, try to learn to love, do something productive.
